MacCorp News September 2023
What readers think about James Cullen Fraser’s special abilities:
- I think James Cullen was born with special abilities and his education and environment and Mensa brain has enhanced them.
- I believe it is a combination of both.
- I think James Cullen was born with special abilities.
- Probably both but I think his DNA plays more of a part and is actually responsible for his Mensa brain.
- I think it is a combination of being born with them due to his bloodline connected to time travel and the brooches and they have increased as he’s gotten older through his experiences especially when he went to the future to heal.
- I think a little of both. I think he was born with some special talents – like communicating with the dead – but has developed them unto something more than what was originally given. JC is a very special person with amazing talents.
- I firmly believe that James Cullen was born with special abilities, but because of his amazing environment, education and his cultivated Mensa brain, he has been able to do and see things that are so very special to him alone. That also means that he is open to a lot of horrible characters who want to take advantage of him and use his brain and his physical energies and his connection to the McKlenna family to do things that he does not want to do and therefore suffer in the process, as he did when he was captured and tortured by Sten. I also believe that as he matures, he will learn more about harnessing all of his gifts to his and the families advantage.
- James Cullen created them through his education, environment, and Mensa brain.
- I think he has special abilities. I remember when he was lost in the cave. A spirit spoke to him and guided him out. He was just a kid.
- I remember from the Three Broaches when JC was lost in the cave, Kristen said that he’d always had the sight. He could’ve developed new abilities after being taken to the future though. Wasn’t there something that JC said about reading a lot while he was in the future? Sort of like a TV in his head?
- think he was born with special abilities. It seems to be evident in his journey into thre cave and being led by a voice. I do think his environment helped as he has parents who are courageous and far reaching in their ability to see what can be done and do more than the ordinary parent might do. His education enhanced his abilities . A Mensa brain is a definate plus. What a high IQ person can do is nothing compared to the Mensa. Although there are those that are Mensa are not always able to articulate to others due to their extreme intelligence. I do think that James falls into this catagory at times. He does possess amazing thinking skills.
- I think he was born with them and has used that magnificent brain to cultivate and grow this abilities.
- Surely all three, if as in environment you mean the family!
- believe he was born with his abilities due to his lineage with the stones/clan connections.
- He was born with them and then enhanced them through his education, environment and his Mensa brain. Mensa is a birth assignment
- While James Cullen was born with special abilities, they were awakened and enhanced by his education, environment, Mensa brain, the brooches and time traveling.
- James Cullen was born with special abilities he inherited from his ancestors on both sides. As he matures he will develop and fine-tune his gifts and pass them on to the generations that follow him.
- We are all born gifted and those gifts flourish when the right supports are in place. James Cullen has had many challenges but unwavering support to grow, challenge and explore his abilities to the fullest. Even in light of his trials, he is a lucky man.
What does Katherine think? Until a few weeks ago, my answer was similar to yours. And then a lightbulb came on, and I was shocked! JC will answer many of your questions in The Moonstone Brooch.
Character Profile: Kitherine “Kit” (McCabe MacKlenna Montgomery
First introduction: The Ruby Brooch
Birth Family: Kit’s parents were Mary (Spencer) and Sean MacKlenna VI, although she learned she was adopted during The Ruby Brooch. Her birth parents are Jamilyn (MacKlenna) and Donald MacCabe. Ironically, Sean VI is Jamilyn’s 4-times great-nephew making Kit Sean’s (IV) first cousin six times removed. Kit married William “Cullen” Montgomery in 1852 and they have four children – Thomas, Abigail, Clare, and Kristen. Braham McCabe is Kit’s first cousin, Meredith (Montgomery) Fraser is her five-times great-granddaughter, Elliott Fraser is her godfather, and Emily Duffy her goddaughter. Click here for her family tree.
Description: Kit has long blonde hair, emerald green eyes with gold flecks, and a dimple in her right cheek. She has a petite figure that is trim and muscular and is left-handed. Kit has scarring on both sides of her neck (one from the car accident when her parents were killed, the other from a physical attack by a former employee) and a butterfly tattoo.
Occupation and hobbies: Before traveling back in time, Kit was a paramedic partnered with Kevin (Allen) Fraser. She participated in pioneer re-enactments growing up and was taught to cook over a campfire by her mom. She is the founder of Montgomery Winery and likes to sketch (while on the trail) and paint.

Excerpt from Chapter 16 of The Moonstone Brooch
The oversized, garage-style door rumbled open, and JC and Paul trotted in, each leading an extra horse. Kit followed them, driving a four-passenger car with a red body and a black collapsable top.
Patrick jogged toward the car and hopped on. “Where’d this come from?”
“Braham found it yesterday. He thought Emily and I would enjoy tooling around Buffalo in it. What do you think?”
“It’s an Olds. Right?” Patrick flicked the fringe on the canopy. “Cute. It’s perfect for you two. It’s like driving a kiddie car.”
“It’s not a kids’ car. It’s a 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile Runabout with tiller steering, a single-cylinder 6.5 HP gasoline powered with a top speed of thirty-five mph and gets about sixty miles per gallon.”
“How do you know all that?” He ran his hand over the black, leather-tufted seat. “It’s in excellent condition.”
“Braham wanted me to know what I was driving, and he said if we left it behind, we were all paying for the cost of the vehicle plus his finder’s fee.”
“He’s never charged for his time before.”
“He said he’s tired of people leaving things behind.”
“I don’t blame him.” Patrick hopped out. “Let’s be sure we bring this car back, but what about a wagon to haul trunks and gear?”
“It’s supposed to be here by now.” Kit turned off the Olds but stayed seated.
Braham entered the arena driving a horse-drawn wagonette carriage, pulled by a single horse, with their traveling trunks stacked in the small wagon bed. He pulled to a stop. “What do ye think of this wagonette? It has hydraulic drum brakes, electric lanterns, and the upholstery is in excellent condition. It’ll accommodate four passengers in the back, with a driver and another passenger riding shotgun in the box seat. Come home with this and the Olds, please!”
“We could have brought the wagon home last time, but we were only thinking about getting the horses. Why didn’t you remember to get it?” Patrick asked. “You were there.”
“I was just worried about the horses.” Braham tied off the reins and hopped down. “Where’s Elliott?”
“He and Mom are driving over with the McBains,” JC said.
Patrick walked around the waggonette, checking it out. It was the perfect size for getting the rescue party from one place to another. “Who’s driving this? I drove last time.”
“I’ll drive it,” Paul said. “Unless Kit will let me drive the Olds.”
Kit dangled the key. “Not a chance, Brodie.”
Paul shrugged. “I didn’t think so.”

Family Update
I asked The Celtic Brooch Facebook Group if there were any family members they wanted updates on. Here are some of the responses:
Q: Is Aislynn having twins?
A: We don’t know yet. The Moonstone is set a few days after The Bloodstone Brooch ends.
Q: How are the pregnant mommies to be? Ensley and Aislynn are both pregnant, I believe?
A: Ensley is busy watching Austin play basketball and planning a wedding. I don’t know about twins yet.
Q: Isabella. How is she doing after her ordeal? How is her practice going?
A: She’s back at work, so she’s hanging in there.
Q: I’d like to know how Samantha and Eric are doing.
A: Erik and Samantha are putting themselves first and enjoying being together, at least when she’s not working in the cleanroom.
Q: Lincoln was conspicuously absent in Bloodstone. He’s only 3-4 years younger than JC, so I’m guessing he’s finished school. Did he go into the military? Or the secret service? Does he have a love interest? It’s almost time for Charlotte to become a grandmother.
A: Lincoln finished at Harvard and is going to law school. He’ll be a headliner in a future adventure.
Q: Just an update, even if one line on all the 2nd gen. In one book, they are under ten, then four books later, they’re at a university and are young adults. It’s like watching your kids grow up. Blink, and you miss it.
A: The first ten books were set three years apart. There are six months from the end of The Topaz to the beginning of The Sunstone. The Bloodstone started a few days after The Sunstone ended, and the upcoming Moonstone is a few days after Bloodstone. So, no one has grown much. There are so many kids that unless they’re featured for some reason, we can assume that they are enjoying Matt’s adventures, playing sports, and preparing for college.
Q: Daniel and Amber!
A: They are doing great with their TV cooking show and their family.
Q: David and Kenzie’s twins!
A: The boys are still at Cambridge, and nothing significant is happening with the girls yet.
Q: Kit and Cullen!
A: They are featured in The Moonstone so stay tuned!
