What’s New in MacKlenna World?

Fall has arrived!

If you’re like me, you might have whiplash from the seasons changing so quickly. After months of summer heat (high 90s), I’m ready for crisp autumn temperatures and beautiful fall foliage. The landscape around me hasn’t transformed from greenery to the rich fall colors of gold, crimson, orange, and brown, but it won’t be long.

In the meantime, we can enjoy some Bourbon Cider. I think Elliott and his challengers would enjoy a cup over a chess game.

INGREDIENTS: 4 cups apple cider, 2 cinnamon sticks (or 2.5 tsp ground cinnamon), peel of 1 orange, torn into pieces, 1 cup of Kentucky bourbon

DIRECTIONS: Add the cider, orange peel, and cinnamon into a pot over medium-high heat. Bring to a low boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in the bourbon. Serve warm in your favorite mug.

While sipping some cider, you might wonder how THE JASPER BROOCH is coming along.

Well, I’m getting into the story now and have the characters figured out, but I have to address the ending of THE MOONSTONE BROOCH, and I’m not sure yet how the family is handling Erik’s big reveal. The easy way would be to set THE JASPER BROOCH a few years after THE MOONSTONE ended, but since it’s Remy’s story and his band’s Mardi Gras gig, that’s impossible.

So, here’s the question. Will Erik be back? Will they meet him again during an adventure?

If he returns to the present, will he give up his essence and stay with Sam? Would she even want him? Would his children? Can anyone forgive him? We’ll see. After all, “life is an adventure of forgiveness.” – Norman Cousins

As for Remy…

He’s been one of Elliott’s best-kept secrets, and Charlotte’s, too. Remy is known for his foul language and constant drumming, but I’m discovering there is so much more to him. I’m enjoying peeling back the layers of his personality. Beneath the vulgarity, he’s a sensitive guy who wants a soul mate to love him as deeply as he wants to love.

Other family Updates

Rory is adjusting well and spends time studying, playing with his new friends, riding around the plantation, and watching his new house take shape.
Robert is much like Cullen when he first arrived in the future. Robert has been reading and spending time on the computer learning about world events since 1901. Cullen andBraham are both helping him adjust.
Sarah is recovering from surgery and adjusting to life in the twenty-first century without Patrick. Her mother is still there and seems to enjoy life in the future. When is she going back? I don’t know, but I don’t think she’s in a hurry.
Emily is back at school, and JC is splitting his time between her apartment, his house in Washington, and the plantation. He and Elliott are enjoying their time together.
Everyone else is walking around, slightly dazed by Erik’s betrayal.
Sam is burying herself in her work and trying not to think about Erik. Marcus is very supportive, and together, they’re enjoying their children and grandchildren.
